Activists from STAND
A Student Anti-Genocide Coalition, moved and alarmed by China’s role in the genocide in Darfur, have committed to publicizing this connection and protesting it through their event Chain2China. For the past four years the Sudanese government has freely committed a genocide against the people of Darfur through methods such as rape, torture, and starvation, resulting in more than 400,000 people dead and over 2.5 million displaced. While these atrocities continue, the Sudanese government has not only proceeded unpunished but even supported through funding, predominantly on the part of China. In order to create a physical manifestation of this link, we will be forming a human chain between the Sudanese and Chinese Missions to the UN on Saturday March 10th, 2007. This event is the result of collaboration from Darfur activist networks all over the nation. Among many organizations, STAND, Genocide Intervention Network, Americans Against the Darfur Genocide, and the Sudan Divestment Task Force will come together to visually emphasize the deathly connection between Sudan and China, call for international attention to this link, and provide activists with concrete measures they can take to bring it to a crashing halt. One of the event’s focuses will be on New York City and state’s divestment campaigns that have been met with tremendous support by New York City residents and legislatures, many of whom will attend Chain2China. There will be short rally to kick off the human chain as well as a longer one afterwards outside of the Chinese Mission to the U.N. where Darfur activists, celebrities, and experts will address the gathered crowd.
Norman Coalition to help Darfur
It is often hard to imagine hardships that do not occur right in front of us. Darfur has been called the worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century. Current UN estimates express that 10 to 15 thousand people are dying every month. The world needs to recognize that a genocide is occurring right now. We must do something to help those who suffer, and right now we still can. As soon as enough members are added to the group I’d like to brainstorm on ideas to raise money and spread awareness.
It’s never too late
Genocide and war crimes are not inevitable, and we need to create noise and action both to stop ongoing atrocities and to prevent their recurrence. Our mission is to help people from every walk of life understand the practical actions they can take to make a difference. Our strategy is to energize diverse communities – including students, religious groups, activists, business leaders, celebrities, and Diaspora networks – to ensure that their voices are heard on some of the most pressing foreign policy and moral challenges facing the world today.
Carver HSES
Thank you for visiting the High School of Engineering and Science’s Dollars for Darfur page. With your help, we can make a difference for the people of Darfur. Each day in Darfur, hundreds of people are raped, starved and murdered by the Sudanese armed forces and a Sudanese government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed. At least 400,000 people have died and more than 2 million Darfurians have been left homeless. The United Nations Security Council authorized that peacekeepers be deployed to Darfur, but the Sudanese government has not yet allowed them entry. Meanwhile, the calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter continues. Dollars for Darfur is a national high school competition to raise funds to help end the genocide in Sudan. Our school is competing with other institutions across the country to show our concern about this issue. One way to help is through this website. Donating through this website is simple, fast and completely secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. Another way to donate is at school. HSES Student Government and the World Affairs Council have partnered up to raise awareness and funds to the situation. Get involved by participating in fundraisers dedicated to the cause. All funds raised will go directly to the Save Darfur Coalition, a non-profit charity. Many thanks for your support — and don’t forget to forward this to anyone who you think might also wish to donate.
